Atul Kulkarni with rural students’ project

This year, three Std. 7 students of a remote village, Dadhre, (in Wada taluka) worked on a Science Project for the Children Science Congress. The subject was “Energy-Efficient Lamps for Conservation of Energy”. The project was presented at the Local, Regional and the State level and had now been selected for the National Children’s Science Congress at Ahmedabad on December 27, 2009.

The students have conducted a survey of the 36 households in Dadhre village, carried out some experiments and presented their observations. They propose that if all the households change from using tungsten bulbs to CFL, the village will be able to save over Rs. 3000/- per month collectively. When there is no electricity, the villagers use oil lamps.
