One film that has been much talked about ever since its announcement is Ekta Kapoor’s The Dirty Picture directed by Milan Luthria. The film, which is based on South siren Silk Smitha’s life, has Vidya Balan essaying the lead role. Now the latest is that the makers have roped in none other than veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah to play an important role in The Dirty Picture. Naseer saab’s character is apparently based on South superstar Rajinikanth. Naseer would be seen wearing flamboyant clothes like how Rajini usually wears and will also be sporting different types of wigs. Surprisingly Naseer has not seen a single Rajinikanth film and plans to catch up on some of his hit films to get the nuances of the character bang on. Apparently Vidya’s character in the film idolises the character played by Naseer saab. This would be the second time Vidya and Naseer would be sharing screen space after the much acclaimed Ishqiya. Besides Vidya and Naseer saab, there’s strong buzz that The Dirty Picture also stars Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor in important roles.
Kareena Kapoor showed up solo for Imran Khan’s reception hosted on Saturday evening by his uncle Aamir Khan. Saif Ali Khan was shooting in far away Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. He could not attend the party. But Deepika Padukone who was also shooting in Bhopal with Saif couldn’t be kept away from the big evening. Not when Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao had personally called her to invite her. Apparently, Deepika flew into Mumbai from Bhopal by a chartered plane and flew right back. She was shooting in Bhopal till 8 pm. She caught the flight an hour later and headed straight for the Taj Lands End in Mumbai. After partying with Aamir and Imran till the wee hours, she headed straight back to Bhopal early in the morning, catching a few snoozes on flight. She headed to location sharp on the dot for the morning shift on Sunday in Bhopal. Jha confirms on Sunday morning, “Yes, Deepika went for the party on Saturday evening. But she’s now back shooting with me here.” However, Jha denies that a flight was chartered from Bhopal for her rush visit. “There are four commercial flights between Bhopal and Mumbai every day. Love, Breakups, Zindagi is an entertaining rom-com that takes a look at today’s relationships. The film is being produced by Sahara Motion Pictures in association with Born Free Entertainment. Speaking about her new venture Dia Mirza said, “We sincerely believe that filmmaking is first and foremost about honesty. And we believe that we need to be honest to the audiences, delivering exactly what we promise.” Zayed Khan who too is super-excited about his new outing said, “How often have you had a brilliant idea and thought there was no way you could translate that on to the screen?
On Monday night, Arjun Rampal left for Bangkok to do a longish 20-day cameo for David Dhawan’s Rascals. Arjun, who has lately become extra-picky about his projects, was in two minds about doing a cameo at this juncture of his career when he’s trying very hard to consolidate his position as an actor with a distinctive identity. Says a source, “Although Arjun was tempted to work with David Dhawan for the first time, the last thing he wanted do was to get into the cameo space again. Repeatedly, filmmakers have put Arjun in the cameo space with the promise of bigger roles later. Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar had given Arjun walk-on parts in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. These led to sizeable parts in We Are Family and Rock On. But now Arjun is done with cameos.” Apparently, Arjun duly informed David Dhawan of his inability to do a cameo in a film that already features Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn. This is where Dutt who turns producer with Rascals stepped in. Not too many people would be able to say no to Sanjay Dutt, especially when he is on the verge of entering a [...]

An emergency meeting bringing together the principal stars of Power is on anvil this week to get the troubled project moving again. It is reliably learnt that producer Feroz Nadiadwala and director Raj Kumar Santoshi will be getting together the A-listers under the same roof to avoid all confusion over dates. Says a source, “It often happens that stars in a multi-starrer agree individually to allotting dates for shooting with their co-stars. But later they completely back out. With Ajay Devgn back in the project, the makers of Power want to avoid all confusion regarding the stars’ dates before they start shooting.” Ajay Devgn is in. Ajay Devgn is out…In….Out…In! Finally, Devgn whom director Raj Kumar Santoshi met recently, has agreed to return to Power, but at a price. Says a source, “Santoshi met Devgn. The star has agreed to return to the project because of his very close association with Santoshi over The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Halla Bol and Lajja.” However, the hitch now is, how to get the other actors to co-ordinate their dates with Devgn? Says a source very close to the project, “Mr Amitabh Bachchan,Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor are very busy stars.Their dates were [...]

A while ago, I posed a question on Twitter and Facebook, asking people what their expectations were from PATIALA HOUSE. The reaction ranged from encouraging and affirmative to unenthusiastic and unexciting. A wide number of caustic and scathing comments were a consequence of Akshay Kumar’s last year’s releases, namely KHATTA MEETHA, ACTION REPLAYY and TEES MAAR KHAN. Also, a few called it similar to DE DHANA DHAN GOAL, while some even compared it with NAMASTEY LONDON. In fact, a lot many factors go against PATIALA HOUSE. Director Nikihil Advani and Akshay’s last outing together, the infamous CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, remains a favorite punching bag to this day. Besides, PATIALA HOUSE comes at a time when people have had an overdose of Akshay starrers. I reiterate, there ought to be at least six months’ gap between two films of a major star, while this is Akshay’s fourth release in six months [KHATTA MEETHA - 23 July, ACTION REPLAYY - 5 November and TEES MAAR KHAN - 24 December]. Moreover, the film opens exactly one week before the keenly anticipated World Cup cricket matches and coupled with that, it will have no breathing space as the very next week witnesses the [...]
